As we approach the end of October, it’s time for students across the country to start seriously thinking about booking their accommodation for next year. Even though most Universities have been back less than a month, the best accommodation gets booked up quickly and, as such, whether you’re a fresher or are going to be going into your third year, there’s many benefits to booking your accommodation sooner rather than later. As such, it’s suggested that you start looking at options in terms of what is available and start to get yourself ready to place a deposit and confirm your chosen accommodation. Whilst many will have already started shopping around, as far as we’re concerned, you need to ensure you’ve got this in place by Christmas at the latest.
In terms of what your accommodation options are, however? We’ve teamed up with Lancaster student accommodation specialists, Yellow Door Lets to try and outline your best option; private student housing!
The three main options students have for accommodation are private houses, private halls and on-campus halls. The problem with private halls? They’re often expensive and generally offer far more ‘luxurious’ facilities than most students can afford or really need. The problem with on-campus accommodation? It’s limited and generally only guaranteed for freshers.
When it comes to student houses, you’ve got the best of both worlds. You’re living with your friends and have your independence, yet still get the warm feeling of living at home. Halls can often feel too crowded, especially when there’s many blocks together, however in a house, you’ll generally be living with 3 or 4 others…very much like family life!
In addition, you’ll often find that private housing can save you up to £30 per week or more compared to halls; a big saving to students living on a budget. This, of course, is just one justification however as far as we’re concerned, saving money and having more of a home rather than a room makes far more sense and is why it proves to be the most popular option for students across the UK year after year.
